The Infected

Max's handler walked briskly towards Max and Wendy. What was his stupid pet doing now? Suddenly, he felt something heavy land on his back and claws dig into his shoulders. The weight sent him hard into the ground. He managed to squirm around just enough to see a tiger's face very close to his own. His eyes widened in fear.

Max helped her sister to stand, but she was very weak. He hadn't realised how much this would take out of her. Max stood next to her, making sure she didn't fall.

Wendy's mind was foggy as she was helped up by Max. She looked around and saw a tiger, amongst other things, spinning around her. It was hard to tell what was real. Wendy leaned on her brother, happy that he was with her again.

Max's handler winced as the new girl kicked his head. He went limp under the tiger's claws. The world started to spin around him and he fought to remain concious. He considered calling out for help, but realised that the others were probably far off by now. Would they notice he was gone? Max's handler doubted it. Fear grabbed him again as he realised he could die here. He might die and never see his family again. Now, he regretted ever becoming a handler, mainly because it brought him to this. The man hoped with all his might that he'd survive to see his family and wife again. He looked up at the tiger with a fearful and desperate look on his face.

As soon as Fawn got off him, Max's handler scrambled backwards. He wasn't giving her the chance to change her mind. Blood had started to seep out of the wounds she had made, but he didn't care. He was alive. Max's handler raced out of the alley, giving one look back at his attacker. He swore to himself that he would give up his job as a handler. In fact, he was moving, moving far away from where these things happened. He had had enough of it all. Once he had made this decision, Max' handler wondered why they treated the pets(children, he corrected) so badly. Couldn't they get them to use their powers to help the government just by asking?

Max looked at his handler as he ran away. As much as he hated him, Max was glad Fawn hadn't killed him. He simply wasn't worth it, becoming a murderer. Max helped his sister over to Fawn and the other girl.

Wendy was slowly regaining her energy. She hadn't really expected it to use that much energy. It must have been the concentration on accuracy that drained her, she thought. Wendy started to pull away from her little brother as she got her strength back.

Miya turned, covering her eyes from them and said, confused as they were, "Why are you so confused? I just kicked his head," she said.

She didn't realize that she probably looked stupid covering her ice-blue eyes like that. She just didn't want to freeze them.. but maybe she could freeze that dumb handler.

Miya replied to Fawn's suggestion, "I'm fine. I can go invisible."

She turned invisible for a few seconds, then came back. She shrugged, knowing it was one of her random powers given and she wasn't very surprised by it. They probably had better powers than her.

Miya shook her head, knowing it would be better to be without powers. She could have at least a little more normal life.

Wendy's brain felt foggy, but she nodded to Fawn. "I think so." She stepped away from Max and seemed to have most of her strength back, even if she was a bit wobbly.

Max watched as his sister stepped away. He was concerned she was saying she was fine so not to be a burden, but decided to trust her judgement. After all, Wendy had always been the leader, his big sister who sacrificed herself to take care of him. It felt weird to Max to actually have Wendy need him.

Wendy nodded. "The opposite of him seems good." she said with a slight smile. She looked down the opposite end of the alley. There was a fence at the end of it, but it looked short enough to climb. "If we run into anyone, I should be able to create enough fog to hide us."

Max followed Wendy's gaze and thought that if he, the apparent youngest, could get over, so could anyone else. He kept looking back at where his handler went, in case he brought others. Max doubted he'd be coming back, but wasn't sure.

((Sorry, but I won't be able to respond from the 25th(tomorrow) to the 29th(Sunday). Maaaaybe I'll get on to respond quickly tomorrow, but don't count on it.))

Wendy looked at his brother, gesturing for her to go first. He refused, probably due to her condition. She rolled her eyes, then closed them to concentrate. Suddenly, a blast of wind lifted her off the ground and over them fence. Wendy landed gently at the other side and waited for her brother.

Max followed, with a blast of fire lifting him off the ground like a jet-pack. He landed not-so-gently, his legs buckling underneath him and performing something like a clumsy summersault. Looking down, his face turned bright red. His attempt to show up Fawn's show-off failed, and he was embarrased.

Sankra looked at the door as the handlers began unlocking it and opening them

Sankra glanced around before getting out of the van and looked at ajay and then at the handlers

Wendy followed Fawn down the alley, feeling her energy returning. She continued checking to make sure Max was still behind her.

Max stumbled behind his sister, head down. His face was bright red with embarrasment. Although he didn't realise it at the time, embarrasment was a lot easier of a problem to deal with than the ones he had been dealing with as a captured. The fact that he actually cared about the little incident was a good sign towards mental recovery.
